Talmudiste et chef spirituel de la communauté de Provence, Abraham ben Isaac de Narbonne est l’auteur du
Sefer Eshkol , son ouvrage le plus célèbre, qui est le premier code de juridiction religieuse écrit dans le sud de la France. Président du tribunal de Narbonne, Abraham jouissait d’une autorité juridique incontestable auprès de ses contemporains; son disciple le plus connu fut Abraham ben David de Posquières, son gendre. Il joua un rôle important dans la transmission des traditions des communautés espagnoles en direction de la France et des écoles du nord de la Loire. Tout en soulignant l’importance des communautés du Midi et en sauvegardant leurs lois et leurs coutumes, il recueillit également les traditions des écoles du Nord. Nombre de ses
